Main Street, Burstwick - Speed |
||
|
A number of residents have complained to Police directly and through the Parish Council about the speed of vehicles on Main Street. Much of what I have seen, concerning the lorries and tractors is perception, but several drivers do somewhat take the proverbial on these straight village roads. So, rest assured, I will look after my communities, and those who reside and work within them, and endeavour to keep the roads safe by slowing people down along residential village routes.
I understand that speed “traps” are contentious, and that many people believe our time could be spent better elsewhere, but today was a fine example of the value of roadside checkpoints. Firstly, there is no “trap.” Abide by the speed limit, and everyone goes about their day happily. However, I am a firm believer of education rather than prosecution, and today, while a few drivers were stopped and spoken to, none were prosecuted…. for speed.
However, one car passed by, only a smidge over 30, at 33mph. On any normal day, this would not have caused a flutter, but this car had a broken front number plate, a smashed passenger side mirror, was covered in scratches and dents, and the passenger appeared to be wearing his Halloween mask a few weeks too early. The driver clearly did not want to hang around for a chat, but I don't like suspicious goings on in my communities, and in order to keep you all safe, I do not give up easily. It took a while, but that car will no longer be being used to commit any form of crime or distress in Holderness - or anywhere else.
Please continue to report your concerns to us, via your Parish Council by all means, but prefereably via 101 or online reporting mechanisms.
